Understanding Doors & Windows
Finding the perfect door, window or indeed glazed extension solution to meet your needs can be a daunting task. No doubt you’ll have a budget in mind so it’s important that you focus on three attributes:
- Aesthetics – are you looking to stick with the same or something that will change the overall look of your property? Have a browse through our case studies section and style guide for further inspiration.
- Thermal performance – technology in glazing has really moved on in recent years so by replacing your windows and doors you’ll be significantly contributing to the thermal performance of your property – and of course you should notice a reduction in your heating bills.
- Security – the security of your new windows and doors is paramount and security should form a key component of your buying decision when it comes to choosing a retailer to carry our your installation. Ask them about the effectiveness of the locking hardware. CIN products include the very latest high security multi-point locking hardware such as Tricept and Ultimate multi-point security systems, meeting all British Standard requirements.
Thermal performance explained:
Understanding the energy performance of one window over another is an important part in helping you make an informed choice about your new windows. Every window manufacturer in the UK supplies the British Fenestration Rating Council with accurate drawings of the window sections, together with the type of glazed sealed unit, this information is used to assess the energy rating of a window unit.
Testing assess three things:
1. solar heat gain
2. thermal losses
3. air leakage
Combined, these three tests provide a rating from an ‘A rating’ to a ‘G rating’ – A, of course being the best. It’s important when you meet your retailer that they explain the energy performance of your chosen windows. It’s worth bearing in mind that to meet the Government’s thermal performance targets and current Building Regulations, all replacement PVC-u windows are to achieve an energy rating of ‘C’ or better.
A CIN retailer will be able to provide a range of windows from ‘C’ all the way through to ‘A’. CIN partners will demonstrate a range of frames that together with an energy saving, sealed unit will provide you with one of the most energy-efficient windows available – this will help to reduce heat loss from your home and save you money by reducing your energy bills.
